Archbishop Pietro Sambi

The apostolic nuncio to the United States, Archbishop Pietro Sambi, died following complications from lung surgery. When I lived in DC, Archbishop Sambi's name was often heard. He would celebrate Mass for various special occasions in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. He would read a letter from the Holy Father each year at the youth rally before the March for Life, always grinning to see the excitement of the young people at the Pope's greeting.

May Archbishop Sambi be welcomed by the arms of Christ at the end of his earthly pilgrimage.

  1. Emily - I had the same thoughts as you. I especially remember Archbishop Sambi at the pro-life youth rally...the year I attended, he seemed so moved by the love expressed for him and the Holy Father! It was really beautiful and uplifting to see. - Bethany
