To whet your appetite:
If we lose the fight on euthanasia, we lose our souls. By removing suffering and the meaning of suffering from our culture, we make the final step in denying and defying our creature-hood. Once again, the seductive lie of Eden will trip us up: “If you will do this thing, you shall be like God.”
And:
If we would save our culture from this latest onslaught, we believers need to adopt the spirit of a new crusade. Christians who have been blessed with means must shift attention and support to intelligent efforts to combat support for euthanasia in our culture. Musicians, storytellers, and filmmakers of faith must find new ways to communicate the truth of human dignity and the value of suffering. In this fight, it may be that our best weapon is the power of beauty.

If you have religious objections to euthanasia, fine. I respect that, and have no desire to try and change your views.
ReplyDeleteHowever, when people try to use state power to enforce their religious beliefs onto others, we have a problem.
My life, my death. End of story.
SFJD, it's more than a religious argument. We have the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Your life is part of the common good of society because it is good for people to exist in relationship to others. Your life matters to others, even if they don't realize it. My life matters to others, even if they don't realize it. This is not a simply religious argument. The fact that your life is a gift to you and for others makes it a good worth protecting.
ReplyDeleteI wrote a paper on Euthanasia (which the paper won a contest). Euthanasia is degrading for humans because it gives a condition some one could meet to allow murder... Hitler had a condition you had to meet to allow murder but it wasn't sick and wanting to die it was being a Jew....
ReplyDeleteAnyway here is a link for the paper for Emily and her followers to enjoy.
